Built in 1912, the ‘Scout Hut’ at Copythorne is believed to be the oldest such building still in active use in the UK, and has an important historical link with Paultons as the 2nd New Forest (Stanley’s Own) Group was founded in 1910 by Major Sloane-Stanley, the then owner of Paultons Estate. There is now seven active Scout and three Guide sections, as well as Network Scouts and two Scout Bands. The Group is looking to improve, extend and refurbish its present building. Paultons Managing Director, Richard Mancey went along to present the cheque and said: “We are delighted for this major project in Copythorne and I would like to think that Major Sloane-Stanley would be pleased that the association between Scouts and Paultons remains to this day.” Group Scout Leader, Joy Sellwood said: “The Group is thrilled with this generous donation towards this ambitious project and yet again Paultons Family Theme Park has demonstrated its long association with the Group and long may it continue.” Richard Mancey presents the cheque to representatives of the Scout and Guide Sections (Photo: John Stubbington)
