Agapanthus BlackJack boasts big ower heads, black buds and black-purple striped blooms and it grabbed the attention of the public as well as the judges. Bred in South Africa, by de Wet Breeders, Patrick couldn’t help but notice the potential on a visit to their nursery more than 5 years ago. Fairweather’s have been evaluating the plant in Beaulieu to ensure it performs well in UK conditions since then and now anticipate sales of 80,000 plants throughout Europe in 2024. Entering it in the RHS Plant Show, it was shortlisted with 18 other varieties, including another introduction byFairweather’s –Tradescantia ‘Brainstorm’. BlackJack was entered into the competition in partnership with ompson & Morgan and Hampshire based Sparsholt College. Interviewed by the RHS Press at Chelsea, Patrick had this to say when asked - What do you think made the di erence? “This is just a complete colour break and the flowers are so dramatic. It is something that doesn’t exist at the moment. The size of the flowers and length of the flowering and it’s a complete showstopper. I am absolutely delighted”! BlackJack and how these and the other wonderful Agapanthus plants are Patrick Fairweather with Agapanthus BlackJack TOTTON & ELING CARNIVAL Saturday 24th June the streets of Totton will once again be lled with the sights and sounds of the Totton & Eling Carnival. e Carnival procession with the theme ‘Be yourself, Be creative!’ will start processing at 4pm from Calmore Industrial Estate, nishing at around 5.30pm at Eling Recreation Ground. During the a ernoon the Carnival Committee have once again teamed up with Coles funfair who continue to support the event offering entertainment and a variety of stalls. e Carnival committee hope this year’s event will be better than ever and would like to say a huge thank you to Councillor Alex Brunsdon, Councillor Kate Crissell, Councillor Ian Murray, Councillor Louise Cerasoli, the Co-op and the Healthy Pet shop for their generous funding which has enabled this year’s carnival to go ahead.
