A new children’s book has recently been released featuring a group of New Forest Pony friends on a quest to nd out if there is a New Forest Unicorn. Written by Carole Smith, ‘ e New Forest Tales, Have you seen the New Forest Unicorn?’ follows New Forest Ponies: Drummer, Merlin, Peewee, Riley, Willow and Juliet on an adventure around the New Forest in search of the New Forest Unicorn. e group of friends venture to many local spots in the Forest along the way including: Setley Pond, Wilverley PlainandBolderwood Deer Sanctuary. ey meet lots of other Forest animals on their adventure but will they see the New Forest Unicorn? e book is beautifully illustrated throughout by Alexandra Wilson. Carole fell in love with the New Forest when her parents moved to Milford on Sea when she was 17 and she met her ‘Forest born and bred’ husband Simon in 1985. Carole spends a lot of time walking in the Forest where it is her privilege every day to see the ponies, deer, cattle and other animals roaming. During lockdown Carole started to write a story that she could share over FaceTime with her granddaughters. Using the quirky characteristic of the ponies and horses she has grown to know and love over the decades, before long she had her six main characters, each with their own personality and e New Forest Tales were born! e New Forest Tales, Have you seen the New Forest Unicorn? is available in paperback and online formats. Alan Titheridge’s new book, ‘Hythe’s Hotspurs and Other Boats’ is now available.
