I could not believe that a year after she first auditioned for the role of younger Marnie in Best Interests, she was asked to do another online audition and was successful. Taylor Mai has cerebral palsy which fitted the brief of the character who was a disabled child suffering from a form of muscular dystrophy. This production has been a so long coming, as it was interrupted by covid, so we have waited a long time for it. I am so pleased for Taylor Mai as she is such a sweet girl and I think the world of her. I am so proud after seeing her performance on TV and I am sure that this is the start of wonderful things to come for her. I do hope that this will enhance her profile and that she will be able to secure another role in the near future. The SPA Agency which is attached to the drama school has many talented children but I do feel that even though we have had children featured as supporting actors in commercials and television productions, this is the first leading role to be aired for our agency and Taylor Mai is the ambassador for Shine.” Fellow Shine pupils Azariah Kenyatta and Solomen Young have also secured acting roles recently with both starring in a commercial for Arla. Run by June Young, Shine Performing Arts run drama, lm and production classes for 4-17 year olds in Ashurst, Dibden Purlieu, Southampton, Chandlers Ford and Hedge End. e School also boasts its own in house agency (SPA Agency) that represents children and young adult performers in lm, commercials, TV and modelling. SPA Agency helped and supported Taylor, Azariah and Solomen to secure their recent roles. For more information please visit: shineperformingarts.net prevent her treatment from being withdrawn. Taylor, who herself has cerebral palsy, played the role of Marnie in her younger years. Taylor comments: “I auditioned for Best Interests when I was 9 years old. It seems ages ago now. We didn’t hear anything back so I assumed that I had not got the part. Then a year later, and completely out of the blue, I was asked to audition again. This time I was given the part of younger Marnie. Taylor Mai Munday I was very excited. I didn’t know who my ‘Mum and Dad’ were until I was on my way to London - only the Michael Sheen and Sharon Horgan! Even more exciting! Having a disability myself, I was proud to play a part in this story about a young girl with Muscular Dystrophy. It was a small part and I was a flashback to Marnie when she was younger. I couldn’t believe how much older Marnie (Niamh Moriarty) and I looked alike. Working in a studio and on location was a great experience and I can’t wait to do it again! I would like to thank my agent, June Young- SPA Agency, for putting me forward for this role, Mr Shore who was Head Teacher of Foxhills School back then for giving me the time off and my family for getting me to where I needed to be and keeping Taylor Mai Munday with her onscreen family Three talented pupils from Shine Performing Arts have recently secured their rst professional TV acting roles. Local girl, Taylor Mai Munday starred in the recent BBC drama Best Interests alongside Sharon Horgan and Michael Sheen. Written by Jack Thorne, the four part, hard hitting drama follows the story of Marnie who has muscular dystrophy and her family’s battle to LEARN TO PAINT IN OILS Hythe Art Group is running a 6 week course Starting Wednesday 9th August 2023 From 7pm till 9pm at Hythe Community Centre, Brinton Lane, Hythe Course Cost: £80 payable in advance Spaces are limited so early applications are advisable Contact Derek Witts on 07598 935902
