It serves the residents of the Hythe, Dibden, Dibden Purlieu, Hardley, Holbury, Marchwood, Beaulieu, East Boldre and Culverly. Although we cannot transport children under the age of 16 years, we do o er transport to clients with assistance dogs. As well as trips to GP Surgery’s, Hospitals, Dentist, it also includes trips to Opticians, Chiropractors, Physiotherapists, Podiatrists or anything else medical related. e group was established around 1982 when local GP, Doctor Husband, formed the group to provide local residents in need around the Hythe area. It later became a member of the Good Neighbours Network, the area covered grew and it quickly became the go to service for residents. e only time there has been a break in the service was during the Covid pandemic. But service was resumed immediately a er the end of the rst lockdown; it continued to operate during the subsequent lockdowns as a vital community service. We are a small friendly group working as a team to provide the service 7 days a week. As word has spread of how reliable and a ordable the service is, the demands on it have grown to the point now where we cannot accommodate all the requests for transport that we receive. To be able to provide and improve our service we are looking to recruit volunteers. Could you spare a few hours each week to help out our community who cherish and value our service? Our volunteer drivers, both Female and Male, give their time for free, using their own car to transport the clients; they receive a generous mileage allowance set by HMRC which is tax free. Do you enjoy, meeting people, helping people and driving? At our AGM on 17th April Chairman Martin Charles was pleased to award long service to the community certi cates to drivers Sylvia Burman 15 year’s service and Ian Davies 10 year’s service. Iris Read, our group Secretary, has been in her role for 22 years, a role she loves but is now looking to retire in April 2025. Is this a role you could volunteer for? Working closely with the committee and members, Hampshire County Council and the Good Neighbours Network it is a pivotal role in the Groups operation. Working from home as required, you will be supplied with a group laptop computer. Along with the normal secretarial skills, it does require the holder to use Microso Word, Excel spreadsheets and Outlook email. We are looking for a volunteer to work with Iris over the next year to enable a seamless transfer of the role in 2025.
