If you’re looking for a fun way to end the week, why not join Shieldhall’s rst ‘Sunset Music Cruise’ of the year, being staged on Friday 5th July between 6.30pm to 9.30pm. e excellent Tuto Tribe will be performing their eclectic mix of samba, rock, Jamaican music and jazz. Saturday 6th July sees Shieldhall steam towards the Isle of Wight, where she will head inland a short distance along the lower reaches of the Medina River, passing old warehouses and wharves, where in the past ying boats, hovercra and steam ships were developed and built. Shieldhall will then pass close to Cowes before heading east into the Solent to view Norris Castle and Osborne House. On Sunday 7th July an extended trip into the Eastern Solent (12noon to 6pm) will see Shieldhall pass Ryde and Bembridge, close to the ‘dumping grounds’ where Shieldhall would release her cargo when working for Southern Water in the 1980s. A sell-out trip on Saturday 13th July is followed by a cruise to view the Solent Forts, the series of concentric forts built in the Solent under the auspices of Lord Palmerston to ward o the threats from Napoleonic France. Food and drink and a licensed bar are available on all sailings. Free parking is available close to Shieldhall’s Berth, Berth 110 in the Western Docks, Southampton. See the sun go down on Steamship Shieldhall (Credit: Will Faulkner) Himalayan Balsam Removal at Tadburn Meadows Tadburn Meadows Local Nature Reserve, located in Romsey (SU367214) will be doing Himalayan Balsam Removal on Sunday 23rd June, from 10am until 12noon at Tadburn Meadows. Meet at the entrance to the reserve at Eight Acres. Tadburn Meadows Local Nature Reserve is hidden amongst the houses and covers almost 12 acres and provides a home for a variety of Britain’s best loved wildlife and some nationally threatened species. e site boasts a variety of habitats, from a stream more characteristic of the New Forest to wet woodland and grassland. Tadburn Conservation Volunteers are a local group working on Tadburn Meadows Local Nature Reserve, Romsey.
