Customers, past sta , volunteers and the current team all came together to enjoy a morning celebrating the Library’s vital part at the heart of the community. Back in 1932, all Hythe had for a library were some shelves in Hythe Primary School and it stayed like that until 60 years ago, when Hythe got it’s rst ‘proper’ library in Cooper House in 1964. is was soon followed by a move into a temporary library on the other side of The Melody Makers performing Knitted afternoon tea by the Knit and Knatter group at Hythe Library Hythe Library’s Birthday cake New Road car park in 1974. 25 years later the new building opened and now 25 years on the library has become an important hub for the community not only loaning books but also providing opportunities to learn new skills, a place for local community groups to meet, clubs for babies, children and adults, a place of warmth and companionship during the winter months, family fun in the school holidays, a base for the Hythe Community Fridge and much more.
