Alastair and his Red Practice colleague Dr Bernie Bedford progressed this. A er seven years of hard planning the new building was finally started. Black eld practice was redeveloped and the other Practices gradually moved to their own purpose built Centres. As we know the Cottage hospital and Centre have recently been demolished and the area is now bene tting from the New Hythe Hospital. When Alastair retired as a GP in 1995 he did not feel ready to give up using his expertise and knowledge in the Medical Field and thus joined the Medical department at the Esso Oil Re nery. Doing sessional work he spent thirteen happy years at the department. During this time he Captained his golf club, Brockenhurst Golf Club in 1998.
