Situated conveniently near the Wessmaps Housing Association Charity Shop, Visual Cuts, and Waters Green Shabby Chic Emporium, Oak & Olive is breathing new life into what many locals had come to see as a “forgotten” parade of shops. With free parking available and doors open seven days a week, the deli is already drawing in curious visitors and regulars alike. At the heart of the business is Gemma Clark, who brings a solid background in hospitality, alongside her partner Karl, an electrician stepping into a completely new venture. Together, the pair have created a welcoming space that blends quality food with a genuine passion for supporting local producers. Inside, customers will nd a carefully curated selection of goods, including fresh fruit and vegetables, artisan breads, and locally sourced meats in collaboration with Alfords Farm in Cadnam. e deli proudly champions regional avours, stocking strawberries from New Forest Fruits, as well as New Forest jam, shortbread, and ice cream. Oak & Olive is also the exclusive retail outlet (outside of the farm itself in Lymington) for frozen meals from the Hampshire & Dorset Ready Meal Company, giving customers access to high-quality, convenient options made close to home. Gemma and Karl are currently in the process of joining the New Forest Marque, re ecting their commitment to showcasing local produce and supporting nearby suppliers. e deli doesn’t stop at retail. Visitors can enjoy a tempting menu of tea and co ee, light lunches, homemade cakes, cream teas, pasties, sausage rolls (already rumoured to be among the best around), and a daily soup special. With seating available both inside and outside, it’s an ideal spot to relax and refuel. While there were initial concerns from neighbouring business Adams Café about the new arrival, it seems those worries are easing. Oak & Olive’s presence appears to be bringing increased footfall to the entire row of shops, creating a more vibrant and supportive local trading environment rather than competition. Looking ahead, Oak & Olive will soon be available on Just Eat, making it even easier for customers to enjoy their o erings from home. For now, Gemma and Karl have one simple message to the community: “Pop in, say hello, and see what we’re all about.” Hythe’s new deli Oak & Olive is now open in South Street Calshot RNLI Network With Solent Crews On Sunday 19th April, Calshot RNLI crews joined up with ank stations for a Solent Lifeboat Meetup. Meeting up with ank stations from Bembridge, Yarmouth and Portsmouth, crews moored at Trinity Landing and were kindly hosted by Cowes RNLI at their station. Once there, it provided crews the opportunity to connect with colleagues from other stations and build a stronger understanding of the di erent capabilities of each station based on their speci c lifeboats. After spending approximately one hour at Cowes station, crews reboarded their respective boats and made their way back to their home stations. Kelley Leonard, Navigator at Calshot RNLI, who helped to organise the event said: “We are often tasked alongside flank stations and those taskings can be complex and lengthy operations. Having the chance to connect with other volunteer crew members from those stations and build deeper relationships will only help us in our goal to save lives at sea. Cowes RNLI getting a shout during the meetup highlights the fact that crews are never off duty and always ready to assist those who need our help in their time of need.” Lifeboats from Yarmouth, Bembridge, Portsmouth and Calshot moored at Trinity Landing (Credit: RNLI/Roger Fairhead)
