Right: Jon Shore winner of the Jim Worsley Memorial Trophy Brian Randall Cup On a damp June morning, Mike Stevenson emerged from the pack to win New Forest Golf Club’s Brian Randall Cup with a net score of 69. Mike Stevenson with the Brian Randall Cup Local runner Louise Johnson recently took part in the Scilly60 – an ultra-marathon around the Isles of Scilly. Louise who is a member of Hardley Runners, was accompanied by Juliet Nicholas, her Friend and Pilates Teacher, whose role during the event was to act as a support and Team Assistant. Scilly60 is a 60km multi-island trail challenge, taking runners across all ve inhabited islands of the Isles of Scilly. Competitors run along the coast path on St Mary’s, St Martin’s, Tresco, Bryher, and St Agnes before returning to St Mary’s for the nal 5km push to the nish. e challenging distance this year was just short of 60km’s (or 36 miles) due to course changes for birds nesting and coastal erosion. However, there was another sting in the tail: a er each run across the everchanging terrain of each island, competitors have to make it to the dock in time to catch the ferry to the next Island! Runners had to average 7 min’s 30 secs / Km to make it before the cut o . Anyone that failed to catch the boats between the islands is withdrawn from the competition. Several runners didn’t manage to complete the challenge this year. Louise, however manged to keep the pace, and completed the challenge successfully on her rst attempt, making it to each dock in time to take the boats between each island. It was a long day of over 11 hours, pulling on all the runners’ will power, determination and strength of character. To pick yourself up and run, such a huge distance broken by ve ferry crossings is an amazing race to conquer – congratulations Louise!
