Abbey eld House in Romsey is one of ve Houses with a sixth property opening next year in Dorchester. Abbey eld Wessex residents wanted to share what its like to live at Abbey eld House. One resident said: “I first heard about Abbeyfield from my neighbour who used to volunteer at the House. She gave me the address and I came to look around with my daughter. I was starting to find living alone was a bit of a struggle after some health issues and decided to make the move. I was offered a month’s trial, living at Abbeyfield House, before making my decision to move here on a permanent basis. I chose which furniture and items I wanted to take with me and put my own house on the market. I have now lived here for five years. There are a total of 12 residents, and we enjoy living communally with a House Manager and staff, including a chef who prepares lunch and dinner each day. Every resident’s room is en-suite and we have individual door bells with video access for safety. We have a programme of activities, such as armchair exercise, coffee mornings as well as other events - such as fund raisers for local charities. The House has a lovely outlook surrounded by beautiful trees overlooking the school playing fields.” Another resident comments: “Though the House is for independent living, I would say as twelve people we are like family. Though we do lead independent lives, we can also join in with any activity we choose. Every room is en-suite and is our home and we come and go as we please. However, we enjoy meeting, mostly each morning, over a cup of tea or coffee in the lounge area and the talk is often very interesting. We talk about our lives and the place we have visited and the people we have met. We always make a special effort to celebrate each of our birthdays – especially at lunch. There are plenty of people visiting the House who are family members or friends and we also enjoy participating in local life.”
