Enjoy captivating creations of fairytale worlds, home to characters such as Hansel and Gretel, e Snow Queen and e ree Little Pigs as you search for hidden gemstones stolen by the evil Jack Frost. Pick up a trail map and mark your discoveries as you explore the meandering paths of Furzey Gardens. As you explore the gardens enjoy beautiful oral displays from their rhododendron and azalea collection and other spring owering trees and shrubs. In June primula candelabra decorate many borders whilst the wild ower meadow is a delight to the senses. roughout the summer visitors are encouraged to enter a competition to share their favourite giant letter or bid to own one of the fairytale scenes. All money raised will go towards supporting people with learning disabilities who work in the gardens and beyond. Faiytales at Furzey is kindly supported by Beaumont Water Heaters, Snows Toyota and NFU Mutual. e trail runs until 1st September. Furzey Gardens is open seven days a week, 10am-4pm. Busy June Programme for Steamship Shieldhall On Sunday 16th June Shieldhall will stage a ‘Steam to the Solent Cruise’. e cruise, 3.30pm–7pm, coincides with Father’s Day and – as with all Shieldhall cruises – there will be an opportunity to explore Shieldhall’s historic Engine Room, Boiler Room and Bridge at close quarters. Tickets are available for all these trips and can be purchased online at www.ss-shieldhall.co.uk or call the Ticket Manager on: 023 8155 0242. Food and drink and a licensed bar are available on all sailings. Free parking is available close to Shieldhall’s Berth, Berth 110 in the Western Docks, Southampton. Southampton’s heritage steamship SS Shieldhall will be staging two D-Day 80 cruises over the weekend of 8th and 9th June. Saturday’s 8th June trip will see Shieldhall steam to the Solent and in view of Lepe Country Park (2pm–6pm), whilst on Sunday 9th June Shieldhall will enter Portsmouth Harbour, home to the British Navy (11.30am–6pm). Both trips will recall how the two embarkation ports played a vital role in the success of Operation Overlord. e Shieldhall Padre will be present and will conduct a service on both sailings. On Saturday 15th June Shieldhall provides an excellent and stable viewing platform to observe the yachts participating in the annual Round the Island Race. e race regularly attracts over 1,700 boats and around 16,000 sailors, making it one of the largest yacht races in the world and the fourth largest participation sporting event in the UK a er the London Marathon and the Great North and South Runs. Shieldhall’s all-day sailing will take place between 10am and 5pm.
