The next Herald is out on 20th June 150th Anniversary Celebrations of St John’s Church in Hythe from The Parish of Hythe is year is the 150th anniversary of St John’s Church in Hythe (the building having been built in 1874). Every year in June we celebrate our Patronal Festival and this year we will be combining our Patronal Festival with an extra special day of celebrations for the church’s 150th anniversary on Sunday 23rd June. During the a ernoon we will be having a BBQ and fun activities for all ages, before a special service of celebration where we will be joined by the new Bishop of Winchester at 5.30pm. We’d love to see as many of you as possible coming together to celebrate this occasion with us. As well as our activities on Sunday 23rd June, we are also marking the anniversary in a number of other ways. At the moment we have some beautiful St John’s tea towels for sale at £7 each. As you can imagine, a building as old as St John’s Church requires some ongoing maintenance work and we currently have a number of leaks and areas that need re-plastering. e money raised from the tea towels will help to fund maintenance work such as this, as well as the church’s many outreach activities in our local community. St John’s tea towel MUSICAL GALA HITS ALL THE RIGHT NOTES Side Story. Event organiser Jan Hoy said: “We are so lucky to have a wealth of musical talent in our local community and are so grateful to all the artistes who have given freely of their time to perform at this Gala.” Church Warden John Hughes added: “A historic building like Beaulieu Abbey requires constant attention to keep it in good repair so the magnificent sum of over £3,500 raised by this event, will help to ensure its continuing service to the parish and beyond.” Beaulieu Abbey dates back to 1204 when it was founded as a Cistercian Abbey by King John. One of only four monastic buildings to survive the Abbey’s destruction during the Reformation, the Abbey Church was originally the Choir Monk’s Refectory and is now the parish church for the local community. BBC South’s Sam Fraser was the host of a Musical Gala held in Beaulieu Abbey Church, with all proceeds from the evening helping to maintain this historic building and support its ministry in the parish. e evening’s entertainment was provided by local musicians and singers, both amateur and semiprofessional, performing songs and instrumentals from the classics and opera to favourite musicals, modern pop classics and Cabaret. Performers included saxophonist Kathryn Crouch, violinist Toby Cuss, the Beaulieu Warblers with their Musical Director Robin Phillips, members of the Waterside Musical Society, Cabaret artist Mark Ponsford and Christian poet, Michael Rolf. e youngest performer of the evening, 13 year old Alexia Hill, a pupil at Walhampton School, captivated the audience with songs from My Fair Lady, e Sound of Music and West BBC South’s Sam Fraser with Event organiser Jan Hoy
