Thursday 10th October, 7.30pm, Beaulieu Village Hall for ‘Holme - the making of a new public garden’ by Simon Goldsack. Thursday 7th November, 6.30pm, Beaulieu Village Hall, for the AGM. Membership is £10 pa, details from Lynne Hubbard 01590 612408. Beaulieu Horticultural Society members have enjoyed a sociable and productive series of summer events. In May, an a ernoon plant sale, with refreshments, held in East Boldre Village Hall, was a popular near sell-out. In June, the Society was blessed with a perfect summer’s evening for the members’ summer party, when members visited two beautiful gardens belonging to fellow members, followed by a delicious bu et supper in the garden. In July, the Society provided a very well stocked plant stall, with Disney themed decorations at Beaulieu Village Fete, where the pro ts are donated to the Charitable Common Good Trust which distributes funds to local Societies and good causes. Also in July, the Summer Show was held in East Boldre Village Hall. ere was a good atmosphere of friendly admiration, advice and competition as members displayed the fruits, vegetables and owers of their gardening endeavours. With frequent comments that it has been a di cult growing season! Nevertheless, there was a good display to impress the judges and viewing public. It was reassuring that the number of entries was up on last year, with new members gaining awards. e Society President, Lady Montagu, congratulated the Society on its colourful and productive display and presented the following trophies: e O’Hara Trophy for Best Specimen Rose Bloom to Elizabeth Gedge. e Malcom Cup for Best Exhibit in the Flowers Class to Elizabeth Gedge. e Common Good Trust Cup for Best Exhibit in the Vegetables Class to Don Medley. The Heape Challenge Cup for Best Exhibit in the Floral Arrangements Class to Maureen Medley. e Williamson Cup for Best Exhibit of a Planted Patio Container to Liz Coppack. e autumn programme begins with a members guided tour of Everton Nurseries. Visitors are welcome to the following talks (£2): BLACKFIELD FLOWER CLUB ere will not be a meeting in August but looking ahead a meeting will be held on Tuesday 10th September with a demonstration by Jo Richards from Bournemouth entitled ‘As the Seasons Start to Change’ which promises some autumn colour.
