Young players will no longer have to cross a busy road to visit the toilet, the junior and senior age groups will have their own place to host other teams for the traditional post-match meals and club members and players will have somewhere to meet for drinks a er matches instead of driving somewhere else. e o cial opening of the clubhouse will be in September and Fawley RFC are incredibly grateful to all their sponsors and volunteers who helped make this happen. ere are still bills to pay so if you’d like to support them there is still time to ‘buy a brick’ and immortalise your family or business name above the bar as a club supporter. Nearest the pin winners: D Webster (4th) A Hare (11th) Pro’s approach: P Wastell (7th). 4th July the DOGS played the second and nal round of their 2023 Individual Championship, this week playing 18 holes stableford play, where the stableford points are taken away from the medal total to nd the DOGS 2023 Champion Golfer. e winner will be announced at the 2023 December presentation. BRAMSHOTT HILL SENIORS OPEN Monday 3rd July saw forty-two Bramshott Seniors gather at Dibden Golf Course for a Stableford Quali er match. e weather continued to be kind but now a little cooler. e course was in excellent condition thanks to their head groundsman Gary Hawker and his team. e course is very busy at this time due to several special events taking place i.e., Lady Presidents Day, Senior Captains Day, Seniors Open and Ladies Open all taking place within a few weeks of each other. ey are very grateful that Gary and his team managed the extra workload extremely well. e results were as follows: Division 1: 1st Brian Lewis 39 points, 2nd Mike Wells 37 points, 3rd Kev Rothwell 36 points. Division 2: 1st Bill Merrett 41 points, 2nd Barry Walker 39 points, 3rd John Bailey 39 points (a er count back). Division 3: 1st Eddie Moseley 44 points, 2nd Richard Short 39 points, 3rd Paul Collins 39 points (a er countback). Wednesday 5th July and the Bramshott Hill Seniors Open had arrived. is is a very prestigious day in the Seniors calendar. It is the day when Bramshott Hill Seniors host teams from other golf clubs to their course. e event was very well organised by Ray Dunkason. Eighty players from clubs near and far attended the day playing in teams of four. ere was co ee on arrival, refreshments at ‘Café 11’ (more information later) and a meal in the clubhouse on completion. Ball spotters were placed at strategic positions on the course to enable the day to proceed smoothly and also to ensure fairways were clear before the Southampton Team next group teed o . e day proceeded extremely well and the weather was being kind until about three o clock when the heavens opened and rain poured down for about twenty minutes, the sun then reappeared and stayed until nearly the end of the day. e nal results were: 1st Southampton Golf Club with a score of 131. Team: Dave Lowman, Colin Peal, Jamie Stoker and Elijah Nkomo. 2nd Brockenhurst Golf Club with a score of 120. Team: Ray Coats, Neil Shanahan, Dave Marmot and Ken Wattam. 3rd Portsmouth A with a score of 117. Team: John Setford, Gerry Holden, Paul Matthews and Bill Taylor 117 A total of £482 was raised for the captain’s charity e Wessex Cancer Trust (Hythe Branch). Café 11, is the Bramshott Hill renowned refreshment tent between the 11th Green and the 12th Tee. It was organised and managed by two of their Lady members, on behalf of the Seniors, namely Jackie Cartwright and Hazel Moseley. All refreshments are free to all players as they pass this point on the course. e refreshments consisted of savouries, pastries and cakes many made by Bramshott Hill members. Squash and water were also available. Many players promise to return just to visit Café 11 and all of the goodies. Café 11 New Forest Golf Club Seniors vs Queens Park (away) Friday 7th July New Forest Golf Club Seniors took their annual trip down the Wessex Way to Queens Park Golf Club in Bournemouth. e conditions were dry and hot with baked hard ground and it was very di cult to keep the ball on the narrow fairways or hold the ball on the greens, but a very competitive match ensued played in good spirit with the result hanging in the balance right to the last. New Forest came away with a great and rather rare away draw 2½ - 2½.
