Before we knew it Martina had completed ve beautiful arrangements and it was time for the refreshments and ra e! She had us hypnotised by the beauty of her owers, music and her stories of how these particular performances are her favourite. Her rst arrangement was associated with Greece: the love story of Sandy and Danny. Martina used Biofoam secured in a large at dish. is was a vertical parallel design. Hard red birch twigs and so pussy willow supported the design. is included rhododendron and r leaves, white antirrhinum, dark purple stocks and green pom-pom chrysanthemum sprays – deconstructed and placed along the base. e design symbolised the contrast between Danny and Sandy. Finally 10 germiniis, dark pink with black centres, symbolised the ladies. Martina’s second design was foam free with glass test tubes supported by wooden blocks in a galvanised trough. Her theme was Les Misérables. e design was organic and open with dried material giving height – dried agapanthus seed heads, pussy willow and oat seeds. Fresh material was placed in the tubes of water: bridal bush, white antirrhinum and leucanthemum (oxeye Daisy) for an informal twist. To add zest were bright orange ranunculus and pale lemon miniature narcissi. Her third arrangement symbolised Miss Saigon. In a large square dish (deep enough for water to reach the stems) were placed two large pin holders. is was a double placement of Japanese in uence. e design was simple with pussy willow and white antirrhinum to emulate curves and deep purple stocks, orange ranunculus and alium for straight lines. In Ikebana (Japanese Floristry) all owers in each pin holder must touch. Lime green pom-pom chrysanthemums and conifer covered the pin holders. Phantom of the Opera was a dramatic, raised design on a wire pillar lled with pink sisal. A loose design using Biofoam. A broad variety of foliage was used (di erent sized leaves, shiny/dull, di erent shades of green, di erent scents etc) – eucalyptus, viburnum, sarcococca and r. Delicate purple clematis, pale pink rose blooms, hot pink spray roses were dotted amongst and nally, symbolising the Phantom, were dramatic burgundy carnations. Her nal design was to compliment e Greatest Showman. A tall, thick wired column with suspended test tubes of water was used to stagger the owers and foliage up through the design – deep purple stocks, Meetings held at 7.30 pm, Copythorne Parish Hall, SO40 2NZ.
