Bowls and a helping hand will be provided on the day: just dress comfortably and bring at-soled shoes to wear on the green. e club is hidden away at the far end of the car park in Brookley Road - walk in and give your details at the clubhouse and you’ll be ready to have a go! e club is a liated to Bowls England and Bowls Hampshire, as well as the New Forest and Southampton Associations, to enable members to play against other clubs in leagues and competitions if they wish but there are also plenty of opportunities for members to just go along and play informally. During winter months when the green is closed they hold social events in the comfortable lounge and members bar, such as skittles (sometimes against other bowling clubs) or quiz evenings. Winning team: D Lowman, D Webster & J Manning (72C/B), 2nd: D Sly, B Renyard & Jo Renyard (72C/B), 3rd: N Dixon, J Crumpler & L Cohen (71). Nearest the pins: T Oliver 4th/18, R Gooding 2nd/9. Pros approach: N Dixon 8th/9 and 2s winner: S Hallett. 2nd April the ‘DOGS’ played their Monthly Stableford Competition, played 9 holes only on the 18 hole course in, yes lovely sunny warm conditions! Winner: T Dempsey (17), 2nd: Jo Renyard (16C/B), 3rd: N Dixon (16C/B) 4th: D Lowman (16C/B) 5th: R Gooding (16C/B), 2s competition winners: D McManus & R Hallett. Winner: R James (19) 2nd: C Peall (17) 3rd: J Manning (16C/B) 4th: J Stoker (16C/B), 5th: D McManus (15) Nearest the pins (N/P) and 2’s competitions winners, J Manning N/P (2nd) J Stoker N/P (4th) and both players winning the 2’s competition. 16th April due to weather conditions the ‘DOGS’ played a 9 Hole Stableford Competition on the 18 hole course. Winner: B Baker (19) 2nd: D Lowman (18C/B) 3rd: G O’Connor (18C/B) 4th: S Lawson (17C/B) 5th: J Stoker (17C/B). 2’s winner: R Hallett, Pro’s approach: D Wilson (7th) and nearest the pin winners: G O’Connor (2nd) and C Bray (4th). Brockenhurst Bowling Club First Competitive Match for Fawley Flames (Girls Rugby) by Rachel Clark In April Fawley Flames, with help from New Milton, hosted their rst competitive xture against Trojans. With the emphasis on fun, the match was keenly fought and always competitive. Both sides gave game time to girls making their rst appearance in a match and every player made a valuable contribution. Fawley and New Milton kept the score board ticking over in the rst half, however Trojans stayed in the contest and staged a strong comeback in the latter stages, scoring 4 excellent tries of their own. Terri c rugby all round, but Fawley were convincing winners with some exceptional talent on display. Fawley and New Milton try scorers were Matilda 3, Maisie, Eliza, Catherine, Maresie 2, Lavi and Annie. With 6 conversion’s from Maisie. Fawley Flames Girls Rugby is the fastest growing section of the club, new players are always welcome, no previous experience necessary. Training is Sundays at 10am. Parts of the course being still very wet, the competition was restricted to 16 holes. e Sages Trophy for those aged between 70 and 79 was won by Malcolm Guy who was 1 point ahead of the eld. Countback calculations con rmed youngster John Pickering winner of the under 70’s Onion Cup, and the Stu ng Plaque for those 80 and
