Jane is an actress and historian, her talk will give helpful home front hints by a wartime housewife. Fawley and Holbury u3a are a friendly group of retired or semiretired people who meet on the 4th Tuesday of each month, 2pm at Black eld British Legion Club, Exbury Road Black eld, when they have an interesting speaker on a great variety of topics. Marc Heighway investigates the ‘Stories of Needs Oar Point’, one that has rarely been told despite the role it played in wartime. e talk includes never before seen photography and lm, tales of bravery, inspiring stories, and how tragedy and high casualty rates struck the young men who ew from these local elds. For just three short, yet eventful months in WW2, the peace of elds south of Buckler’s Hard was shattered by the arrival of four squadrons of Typhoon ghter bombers and lorries full of men. Some have said that this was the busiest air eld on D-Day. But just how true is this? Visitors welcome. £6 on the door. Arrive from 7pm for a 7.30pm start. Waterside Repair Café If you have an item sitting at home, not working, take it along to the Waterside Repair Café on the last Saturday of each month. eir volunteers will do their best to repair it, and if they can’t they might know someone who can. If your item is beyond repair the team will tell you the best way to dispose of it. From clocks, household electricals to umbrellas, they have seen it all. Go on down and say hello and enjoy a cup of tea and a slice of cake whilst you wait. e Repair Café takes place on the last Saturday of each month from January to November at the Black eld Baptist Church Hall.
