The Project would use advanced treatment techniques to turn highly treated wastewater that is usually pumped far out to sea, into puri ed recycled water at a new water recycling plant in Havant. is puri ed recycled water would be pumped via an underground pipeline to the Havant icket Reservoir where it would mix with spring water. Water from the reservoir would then be pumped along another pipeline to their Otterbourne Water Supply Works where it would be treated to strict drinking water standards before being sent into supply. As part of the opening weekend celebration, visitors enjoyed meeting a tra c warden, milkman, a bus conductor, and a motor salesman spiv. Younger visitors were intrigued to hear stories from the era – including wider opportunities for travel, changing tastes of fashion, the ght for equal pay, whilst those old enough to remember reminisced about the car and motorcycles on the street. e new gallery Streets Ahead: Motoring in MidCentury Britain displays artefacts from the Museum’s extensive motoring collections in shop fronts on the street; a toy shop with treasured playthings such as Corgi toys and Scalextric, a motoring clothing shop boasting sensible or fashionable outerwear and accessories, a travel agent that brought holidays abroad as well as UK trips and excursions to the masses for the rst time. A mobile hardware store is also parked up showing a form of shopping when roads and perhaps lives were less busy. Museum Chief Executive, Jon Murden says: “The re-development of this section of the Museum into Streets Ahead is a wonderful addition to our displays. It is an opportune moment to look back, at a time when the high-street is experiencing yet another revolution in shopping habits.” National Motor Museum Senior Curator, Gail StewartBye says: “The decades following the Second World War saw full employment, a growing population, greater affluence, the emergence of the ‘teenager’ as a distinct sector of society, and an explosion in the affordability and availability of consumer goods, all of which fuelled a booming economy”. Gail says that motoring was central to this transformation: “Cars and motorcycles became accessible to more people than ever before. Mass motor vehicle ownership, and the freedom for everyone to travel was part of the shared experience of post-war life. Through travel, fashion, in entertainment, and whilst growing up, motoring became a significant part of popular culture.” e exhibition is included in the admission ticket for the Beaulieu attraction, and further details are available from: www.nationalmotormuseum.org.uk Streets Ahead Opening Weekend Actors Opposite Ends Art Exhibition takes place at the Sir Harold Hillier Gardens, near Romsey until 27th June, 10am to 5pm daily (exhibition closes 3pm on the last day). Exciting new work by Jo Elswood (abstracts, mixed media, textiles) and Christina Hart-Davies (botanical watercolours, illustrations, drawings), celebrating the natural world from opposite ends of the artistic spectrum. For further information about the charity please see their website: www.theambitiousforallfoundation.org.uk answer session. Prior to the visit the students had selected the topics they wished to discuss, which included the environment and the cost of living, and prepared questions which they put to the Civil Servants. e session began with these questions and quickly developed into a discussion between the Civil Servants and the students about their chosen topics. ‘Chat About’ Social Club Join Hythe Library on Wednesday mornings 10am to 12noon to meet and socialise with new friends who are also retired. Page 16 • The HERALD • 20th June 2024 v SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL BUSINESSES v WATERSIDE NETWORK GROUP: MEMBER FOCUS by Simon Chadwick Allow me to introduce you to Mark Chapman of local business KlicKey. e ‘Klic’ of Klic-Key stands for Keys Locked In Car, although it’s as likely to be lost keys that Klic-Key have to deal with. Mark assists people across Hampshire, Dorset and Wiltshire who have, for some reason or another, got themselves into car trouble. Offering a 24-hour emergency vehicle locksmith service, Klic-Key regularly assist the AA, RAC and Green Flag in helping their members gain access to their cars in a nondestructive manner. Klic-Key is an independent company with over 30 years’ experience in the motor trade. It doesn’t have the overheads of the national companies so the savings are passed on to you. Mark is able to travel to wherever you are, whenever you need him. e most common call out for Mark is when the only key has been le within the vehicle, and the vehicle has been locked, usually by the car itself ‘thinking’ it has been le unlocked and abandoned. Having a second key would have saved a locksmith call out for non-destructive entry. Also, if anything happens to the only key then the vehicle essentially becomes a paperweight. A spare key is roughly half the price of replacing the only key so, while you have that one working key, check your spare! If needed, Mark can make one for you. Another bugbear of Mark’s is the peril of keyless ignition systems, and those that wish to exploit them. Mark recommends and can provide, Faraday pouches to shield your key’s signals from any ne’erdowells out there. So, for a friendly, polite and professional service, talk to Mark at Klic-Key using the contact details in the featured member box, opposite.
